Experience the dramatic landscapes of the Inner Hebrides and the West Highlands on this four day private tour from Inverness. While we explore the rugged peaks of Glencoe and the colourful harbour of Tobermory, the heart of this journey is the sacred Isle of Iona. Known as the 'Cradle of Christianity' in Scotland, Iona offers a unique sense of peace and ancient history, where you can explore its world-renowned Abbey, white sandy beaches, and the final resting place of early Scottish Kings.
Begins from Inverness where we follow the banks of Loch Ness to Urquhart Castle to explore its medieval history. We then continue down the Great Glen towards Fort William where we detour along the 'road to the Isles' to Glenfinnan to explore the Jacobite monument, museum and viaduct. The mid-afternoon takes us south into Argyll, with a viewpoint stop at Castle Stalker before we arrive in Oban for our overnight stay.
Departing from Oban we take a 45 minute morning ferry across to Craignure in the Isle of Mull. It is then a short drive to explore the stunning Duart Castle, ancestral home of the clan Maclean. The mid-afternoon takes us north to Tobermory where you have some free time to explore this picturesque harbour town where we will overnight for the next two days.
Begins from Tobermory with a scenic two hour drive through the Isle of Mull to catch the ferry (15 minutes - pedestrian only) across to the beautiful Isle of Iona. We have around four hours on Iona where you can explore Iona Abbey, the museum and the ancient churchyard, along with time to enjoy the stunning scenery and coastline of this wonderful Hebridean island before we return on the afternoon ferry across to the Isle of Mull and back to Tobermory for our overnight stay.
Begins from Tobermory with a short drive south to Craignure for the mid-morning ferry back across to Oban followed by a drive north to explore the stunning landscapes around Glencoe. Along with a visit to a reconstructed traditional 17th-century turf house, we also have stops at the River Coe and Loch Achtriochtan as we explore one of Scotland's most impressive glens. The afternoon takes us on our return journey north-east along the Great Glen to Inverness including time to explore the Caledonian Canal at Fort Augustus.

Whilst I do not book accommodation directly, I am always happy to offer advice on where to stay and eat. Your tour quote will include a list of recommended accommodation options for our overnight locations along with suggestions for evening meals.

Most locations involve just short walks from the vehicle to viewpoints, castles or historic sites. The pace is relaxed and there is plenty of time to enjoy each stop. If you would prefer to skip a particular walk or explore at your own pace, that is absolutely fine on a private tour.
The tour vehicle (Honda CR-V) comfortably accommodates up to three passengers with the rear boot (trunk) for luggage allowing for one medium bag/suitcase per person and one small day bag/backpack per person. For private groups of three, if you are unsure about luggage capacity, please let me know the size of your suitcases and I can check against available space.
The tour itinerary is based on many years of guiding experience, previous client feedback, and practical travel timings. However, there is some flexibility and the itinerary can often be adapted in advance to suit particular interests or requests where possible. Please mention any requests in the 'Extra Information' section when completing a Tour Enquiry Form.
Ferry sailings are generally reliable in the summer months, but delays and cancellations can occasionally occur. While I cannot be responsible for additional accommodation, food or other costs that clients may incur due to ferry delays and cancellations, I will make every effort to adapt the tour to minimise disruption. Please note that no refunds will be given for tour and itinerary changes due to ferry changes and cancellations.
The Scottish Highlands and Islands are renowned for changeable weather, and even in the summer months we may experience some rain or wind. I always recommend a light waterproof jacket and comfortable footwear suitable for short walks in wet or uneven terrain.
The first step is simply to complete the Tour Enquiry Form with your preferred travel dates. I will then reply with availability and a detailed tour quotation (with absolutely no obligation to proceed at this stage). I usually reply to enquiries within 24 hours.
